Open PhD position in Systems Neuroscience, CRG Lab Matthieu Louis

Open position available before the end of January

Centre for Genomic Regulation (www.crg.eu) in Barcelona, Spain

We are looking for a highly motivated researcher interested in quantitative behavioural
neuroscience. One position is available to conduct a Ph.D. in the laboratory of Matthieu Louis
(CRG, Spain). The successful candidate will join the Marie-Curie Initial Training Network
FLiACT for Drosophila system neuroscience. The aim of FLiACT is to elucidate how circuitfunction
relationships are genetically encoded and how circuit computation controls behaviour.
The FLiACT network is composed of 12 partners across Europe together with the Janelia Farm
Research Campus
.

5th G-Node Winter Course in Neural Data Analysis 2013

February 25 - March 1, 2013 in Munich, Germany

The German Neuroinformatics Node (G-Node) organizes its fifthinternational training course to promote state-of-the-art methodsof neural data analysis among PhD students and postdocs. The course offers hands-on experience with model-driven analysisof data from intra- and extracellular electrophysiology. We encourage applications from students/postdocs with an experimentalbackground that want to widen their repertoire of analysis methods,as well as from students with a theoretical background that havean interest in analyzing physiological data.

Faculty: Clemens Boucsein (Albert-Ludwigs-Universität, Bernstein Center Freiburg), Alex Loebel (LMU Munich, BCCN Munich), Jan Grewe (LMU Munich, BCCN Munich), Martin Nawrot (Freie Universität, BCCN Berlin)

Keywords: Analysis of post-synaptic events - short-term plasticity - spectral analysis - tuning and decoding

Inviting student applications: FENS-IBRO School on "Causal Neuroscience"

June 2 - 8, 2013 in Bertinoro, Italy

This Summer School will introduce students to a revolution currently underway in how we interrogate neural circuits in order to understand the way in which they drive behaviour. We call this revolution "causal neuroscience", because it aims to harness new technologies for manipulation of neural circuits in order to provide direct causal links between circuit elements - such as channels, synapses, specific cell types, cell assemblies - and behaviour. The course will inspire a new generation of young investigators by bringing them together with the leading figures in this emerging field of 'causal neuroscience'.

Deadline for applications: January 31, 2013, 24:00 CET

Dr. Rudolf Jaenisch to Keynote at the Stem Cell Summit 2013 - Call for Papers

April 29-30, 2013 in Boston, MA

Stem Cell Summit 2013 explores the recent developments in pre-clinical and clinical trials of stem cell therapy, regenerative medicine and tissue engineering, cancer stem cells, stem cell reprogramming, and regulatory policies regarding stem cell research. In addition, the 2-day summit will focus on challenges and potential strategies for overcoming these challenges and promote business opportunities to further advance stem cell research. Questions to be addressed include: What categories of companies are currently commercially viable? How are they being funded? What kind of strategic relationships are available within the industry?
