As German Research Center for Environmental Health, Helmholtz Zentrum München pursues the goal of developing personalized medical approaches for the prevention and therapy of major common diseases such as diabetes mellitus and lung diseases. Helmholtz Zentrum München is a member of the Helmholtz Association, Germany's largest scientific organization.

The program supports highly talented postdocs in the development of a competitive scientific profile for a successful scientific career in academic research or industry. Fully funded postdoctoral positions are available in the following research areas:

  • Diabetes
  • Lung biology
  • Neurobiology
  • Immunology & infection research
  • Epidemiology & genetics
  • Ecosystems biology
  • Medical imaging
  • Systems biology & structural biology

Talented postdocs who are accepted into the three-year program will focus on a research project and will be integrated into international and interdisciplinary research groups at the Center. An experienced research mentor and a personal coach will create an individual career plan together with the postdoctoral fellows and prepare them for their next career step in scientific leadership positions. Personal travel grants will enable them to meet up regularly with international colleagues to exchange ideas and to build up international networks. In addition to a modular training program for acquiring leadership qualifications, the postdoctoral fellows will receive professional assistance in acquiring external funding.
