PhD position

Research assistant (PhD position) in Molecular Cardiovascular Research

The project:

Applications are invited for a PhD position at the Endocrine Research Labs of the Medical Department IV/University of Munich on the transregional CRC/TRR 205 ‚The Adrenal: Central Relay in Health and Disease‘ funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). The PhD student will be joining a highly motivated and expanding team of researchers studying the pathophysiology of primary aldosteronism, a common cause of endocrine hypertension. The BiPA project will identify contributors to Bilateral Primary Aldosteronism by building on data from previous projects and will exploit a set of rare adrenal patient samples. The successful applicant will be expected to attend and present their data at national and international scientific conferences. The studentship will be jointly supervised by Dr. Tracy Ann Williams and Prof. Martin Reincke.

Techniques will involve:
· Immunohistochemistry/Immunofluorescence
· Molecular biology (genotyping, gene expression profiling, real-time PCR)
· Cell biology and functional assays (cell proliferation and apoptosis)

Your qualification
· Master’s degree or equivalent, preferably in biology, pharmacology or biochemistry and allied disciplines with a strong commitment to research
· Experience in molecular biology and/or cell culture
· Ability to write concise, accessible scientific reports
· Strong communication skills and fluency in English
