PhD position (m/f)
Cellular and Molecular Mechanisms in Atherosclerosis

The ISD is a translational research institute primarily financed by foundation funds that bridges the traditional barriers between academic medicine and basic science (www.isd-muc.de). A major research focus is unravelling the mechanisms underlying large artery stroke using animal models, biochemical and cellular approaches.

Description
The project, which will be carried out at the Institute for Stroke and Dementia Research (Director: Prof. M. Dichgans), aims to examine the cellular and molecular mechanisms in atherosclerosis (the prevailing cause of large artery stroke and coronary artery disease) and in vascular remodeling after arterial injury. Techniques include primary cell culture, real time-PCR, ELISA, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry and biochemical techniques as well as experimental studies in animal models of vascular inflammation and atherosclerosis.

Your profile:
The ideal candidate should hold an MSc degree in biological sciences or related fields and have experience with basic methods of molecular and cellular biology. Suitable candidate should be highly motivated with an interest in vascular biology and disease-oriented research.

We offer:
The position will be in the group of Prof. M. Dichgans in an international, dynamic and “open-door” atmosphere, with access to state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and technologies. The applicant will work in a group of experienced staff, PhD students, Postdocs and technicians. Salary will be according to TV-L and the position funded for up to 3 years. The Ludwig-Maximilians-University is an equal opportunity employer. Individuals of all nationalities, genders, ages, and those with disabilities are encouraged to apply. We give priority to applicants with a disability and essentially equal qualifications.
Interested candidates should submit their complete application documents (including CV, motivation letter and transcripts within a single PDF file) via email to Dr. Yaw Asare (yaw.asare@med.uni-muenchen.de)
