GSN Alumni returning as Faculty

Dr. Nicolai Franzmeier graduated from the GSN in WS 2017/2018 with a thesis on Neural Mechanisms of Cognitive Reserve in Alzheimer´s Disease under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Michael Ewers.

The research focus of his group lies in better understanding the mechanisms that promote the development and progression of Alzheimer’s disease, in order to develop clinically applicable personalized medicine models for predicting patient-specific disease trajectories (e.g. Franzmeier et al., Alzheimers Dement, 2020).

Dr. Sara Jäkel is a WS 2015/2016 GSN Alumna. She had carried out her PhD in the lab of Dr. Leda Dimou on the topic of Proliferating NG2-glia and their functional importance in the healthy and injured brain.

Her group is interested in the role of oligodendrocytes – the myelin-forming cells in the central nervous system – in Alzheimer’s disease.

Dr. Steffen Tiedt received his GSN PhD degree in WS 2017/2018 after researching The role of blood-based biomarkers in ischemic stroke in the lab of Prof. Dr. Martin Dichgans.

The Tiedt Lab aims to identify circulating signatures that inform on the local and systemic effects of stroke and to explore the underlying molecular and pathophysiological mechanisms.
