PhD student / Post-Doc Position in Meinl Lab

The Institute of Clinical Neuroimmunology at LMU Klinikum offers a position in “Human Neuroimmunology”

01.03.2022

The Institute of Clinical Neuroimmunology offers a position for a
PhD student / Post-Doc
In the area “Human Neuroimmunology”.

The Institute of Clinical Neuroimmunology is devoted to research into the mechanisms and treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS) and related diseases. The infrastructure of our institute embedded in the BMC Munich is ideally suited for combining basic research with clinically relevant issues.

Background and project: Inflammatory diseases of the CNS comprise a spectrum of disorders amongst which MS is the most frequent one. These diseases are due to misguided autoreactive immune cells that attack the own nervous system and induce chronic inflammation. We focus on B cells and aim to (1) explore the autoimmunity against known target antigens and identify novel targets of autoimmune responses to stratify patients, (2) study the complex microenvironment in MS lesions that fosters persistence of B cells, (3) recognize mechanisms of actions of immunomodulatory
drugs applied to patients with MS and related disorders. This specific project in the lab of Prof. Dr. Edgar Meinl aims at understanding the role of B cells in neuroinflammation and protective immunity against SARS-CoV-2 in patients treated with immunosuppression.

Your profile: Candidates should hold a Master degree or PhD in Biology, Chemistry, Immunology or a related subject. The position could also be filled by a highly motivated MD interested in basic research. Experiences in flow cytometry, immune cell culture, molecular techniques and bioinformatics are advantageous.

Position: The position is embedded in the SFB TR128 “multiple sclerosis”. The salary will be 65 % or 100 % E13. The position is available from now on for a fixed term contract of 2-3 years with the possibility of extension.

Applications comprising a curriculum vitae and relevant documentations should be sent as a single PDF file to Prof. Dr. Edgar Meinl edgar.meinl@med.uni-muenchen.de
