Prof. Laura Busse elected as GSN Speaker
GSN-LMU welcomes new Speaker following two decades of founding leadership
01.10.2025
The GSN is pleased to announce the appointment of Prof. Laura Busse as its new Speaker. She succeeds Prof. Benedikt Grothe, who founded the school twenty years ago and has led it with extraordinary vision and dedication since its establishment.
Under the leadership of Prof. Benedikt Grothe, GSN has grown into a thriving and globally connected neuroscience institution, renowned for its excellence in research, education, and community spirit. As of October 1st, Prof. Grothe has been appointed to Vice President for Natural and Life Sciences and Deputy President of LMU Munich — an achievement that reflects both his outstanding contributions and the strength of the community around GSN. We warmly congratulate him on this well-deserved recognition.
In accepting the new role, Prof. Laura Busse expressed both gratitude and excitement for the future:
“It is a great honor to follow in the footsteps of Prof. Benedikt Grothe, who founded the GSN twenty years ago and has shaped it into the leading international program it is today. As we enter this new chapter, we reaffirm our mission: to foster excellence in neuroscience education and research across Munich, to cultivate intellectual curiosity and collaboration, and to sustain the community spirit that makes this school so special.”
As GSN Speaker, Prof. Busse will work closely with students, faculty, and staff to build on the school’s strong foundations and guide its continued growth as a world-class center for graduate education in neurosciences.
