Research description: Neurons are highly compartimentalized cells, and some neurons possess long axons where neurotransmission occurs. The microtubule cytoskeleton is essential in maintenance of axonal homoeostasis, as it fulfills essentials functions, such as providing physical shape, and the basis for transport of organelles. Using motor axons as a model, we focus on alterations of the microtubule cytoskeleton and posttranslational modifications during disease and development. We combine quantitative immunostainings, with electron microscopy and live imaging of transgenics or virally injected mice.
